Competence.

The non-chalancy in the remote work space is becoming unbearable.
A friend lamented how a graphic designer stalled the completion of a branding project for a month which led to a client switching off on her.

As much as that was not an excuse, I understand the wait.

It takes a lot to see a graphic designer that understands the assignment hence the helpless dependency on one that does. Therefore, as much as I blame her for not switching to another, I believe she has learned

a thing or two from this.

Dear Remote worker, I am glad you are highly skilled but it doesn't get the job done. Kill the mentality of "I still have a day or more to get this done, and I can get it done in less time." No doubt, you can get the task done in less time as you have rightly "bragged" but what about the unforeseen circumstances that might erupt from nowhere to disrupt your plans of getting it done in less time?

Have you factored in this?

It takes one referral to land you your dream job. Just one. "Mike will get this done in record time and excellently well too." That is all it takes. But the more you disappoint people who TRUST you with their projects, the more your career leans toward life support.

Remember the Golden rule.
Remember the law of Ripple effects.
Remember why you "skilled-up" in the first place.
Remember the good your work could do.
Remember your portfolio.
Finally, Remember your bills, and get the job done in record time, and excellently well too.
