Family times

By 2040, television as we know it may well be a relic of the past, rendered obsolete by the relentless rise of the internet and smartphones. These powerful devices, with their endless access to content on demand, have redefined how we consume entertainment. But as we marvel at the convenience of streaming apps and viral videos, one has to wonder—what are we losing in this digital revolution?

Television has long been more than just a source of entertainment. It has been a cornerstone of family bonding, a shared experience that brought people together around a single screen. Whether it was watching the evening news with parents or laughing over weekend movies with siblings, or watching that fate determining crucial sports finals, televisions helped create memories etched in time. Those moments weren’t just about the shows—they were about togetherness, about pausing our busy lives to sit as a family, under one roof, sharing the same story.

As smartphones and the internet dominate, content has become hyper-personalized, and everyone tunes in to their own world, headphones on, screens glowing. While this gives us unparalleled access to entertainment, it also isolates us, inching us further away from the shared experiences that television once gave us. The magic of arguing over what channel to watch, the family-wide suspense during an interesting episode, or the shared silence during a documentary—all of that could fade away.

Yet, as technology reshapes our habits, there’s also hope. If we consciously work to preserve those shared moments—whether it’s through streaming family-friendly content together or setting aside screen-free times for connection—we can hold on to the best parts of what television once gave us. Because in the end, "it’s not the device that matters; it’s the memories we create with the people we cherish while it's in use that counts."

Television may become extinct, but the spirit of family time doesn’t have to. It’s up to us to adapt without losing sight of what really feeds our souls—connection and togetherness. Let’s ensure we keep creating those sweet and memorable family moments, no matter how the screens evolve.
